ERA Board Meeting: A future-proof and forward-looking association
On the 26th of November 2024, the Board meeting of the European Rabbit Association (ERA) took place in Brussels, fostering engaging and cheerful exchanges. Members agreed on an Action plan allowing them to deal with pressing issues affecting the rabbit meat sector, make good use the new EU legislative cycle and be ready for the next decade.
ERA: an active player at the 13th World Rabbit Congress
On October 2-4, 2024, the beautiful city of Tarragona, Spain, played host to the 13th World Rabbit Congress. This prestigious event brought together scientists and industry professionals from around the globe to share the latest insights, developments, and best practices in the rabbit sector. Topics ranged from reproduction and ethology to welfare, farming systems, economy, biology, physiology, breeding, genetics, nutrition, and feeding.

ERA General Assembly in Segovia: United voice of the EU forward-looking rabbit sector
It is under the radiant sun of the beautiful city of Segovia (Spain) that the members of the European Rabbit Association (ERA) met on the 18th and 19th of April 2024 for the General Assembly. “The European rabbit sector has come a long way!”, praised Alfonso Miguel Casado, ERA President. He added “ERA is clearly the best tool for promoting and raising awareness about the rabbit sector by bringing a united voice to EU policy makers.”
“UNREALISTIC AND INADEQUATE”: ERA’s stance on Animal Transport Proposal
In December 2023, the European Commission published a legislative proposal on the protection of animals during transport. In this context, the Commission opened a public consultation, the results of which will be summarized and presented to the Parliament and the Council to feed into the legislative debate. In this regard, the European Rabbit Association (ERA) shared its preliminary remarks on the proposal.
ERA Board Meeting: A sector keen to grow stronger
On the 30th of November 2023, the Board meeting of the European Rabbit Association (ERA) took place in Brussels in a nice and constructive atmosphere. Members shared the latest national initiatives and good practices, discussed the main challenges of the sector and possible solutions as well as strategic actions to be undertaken in 2024.
Implementation of the European promotion programme: The Secret is Rabbit Meat
Over the last three years, the Spanish inter professional rabbit organization (INTERCUN), in collaboration with the Portuguese Association of Rabbit Farmers (ASPOC), successfully executed the European promotion campaign for rabbit meat, titled “The Secret is Rabbit Meat”.
ERA joins ELV: working together to protect and promote the advantages of EU livestock farming
The European Rabbit Association is now a member of the European Livestock Voice (ELV), a coalition of European stakeholders in the EU livestock sector, united to promote the social and global value of livestock production and provide a balanced perspective in ongoing debates.
