ERA Board Meeting: A future-proof and forward-looking association

On the 26th of November 2024, the Board meeting of the European Rabbit Association (ERA) took place in Brussels, fostering engaging and cheerful exchanges. Members agreed on an Action plan allowing them to deal with pressing issues affecting the rabbit meat sector, make good use the new EU legislative cycle and be ready for the next decade.

ERA’s members expressed their will to remain heavily involved in the association in order to keep building on the work already laid out. The European rabbit sector wants to  keep providing its contribution to future relevant discussions such as the legislative proposal on the protection of animals during transport. ERA wishes for a Regulation adapted to each specie’s specificities, taking into account the reality of the rabbit sector and maintaining the competitiveness of EU based companies.

ERA’s members welcomed the Association of Poultry Processors and Poultry Trade in the EU’s (AVEC) Secretary General Birthe Steenberg over lunch. This exchange was an outstanding opportunity to share on both sectors’ common challenges and opportunities.

The newly confirmed EU Commission and recently elected EU Parliament will shape new policies for the years to come and ERA will remain a reliable partner throughout these developments. Members ended the meeting agreeing to keep strengthening the association by gathering in Germany for their General Assembly which will be held in May.
